When tasked with creating a grand opening teaser for a hotel that isn’t built yet, you need to get pretty creative. Filming in other hotels (which the client proposed) didn’t make sense to us, so I opted to use non-descript studio environments that matched the tone of their brand. A modern classic. Dusty retro cameras. Whiskey. Cigar. Refined, approachable luxury for the young professional. The low key lighting allowed us to drop the backgrounds into darkness and focus on the subjects. The best part was being invited to the hotel's opening night, getting the tour, and seeing the video playing on the TVs in all the rooms. Maybe it still plays there to this day?
